What a clothing description has to do

Online, the shopper can't feel the fabric or try the size. A good clothing description does that job for them, so it's built around three sections rather than a block of adjectives.

SectionWhat goes in itField to fill
Opening and featuresWhat it is, how it looks on, when you'd wear itGarment details
Fit and sizingFit, sizing advice, the model's height and size, garment measurementsFit and Sizing advice pills, model and measurement fields
Fabric and careFiber content as on the label, care, where it's madeFabric, care and origin fields

Model height and size worn is the most useful line you can add. "Model is 5'8" (173 cm) and wears size S" lets a shopper compare with their own height in a second.

Fabric and origin wording in the US

  • Country of origin. The FTC says a catalog or website description of a textile product must say clearly whether it's "Made in USA", "Imported" or both. Fill in Where it's made so the description includes it.
  • Fiber names. If an ad mentions a fiber, the FTC says the fiber content required on the label must appear too. The tool copies your fabric line exactly, so copy it from the care label.
  • Bamboo. Most "bamboo" fabric is rayon. The FTC asks sellers to call it rayon, or "rayon made from bamboo", and the tool does this automatically.
  • Performance claims such as moisture-wicking or UV protection are only written if your details state them.

Adding it to your store

  1. 01

    Copy the HTML

Use Copy HTML under the result, so the headings and lists come across as they are.

  2. 02

    Shopify

In your Shopify admin, go to Products, open the product and click Show HTML (the <> button) in the description editor toolbar. Paste, then click Save.

  3. 03

    WooCommerce

In WordPress, go to Products, edit the product and switch the main editor to the Text tab before you paste. Click Update.

  4. 04

    Link your size chart

If you have a size chart, add it below the description or in a size guide tab. You can build one with the size chart generator.

Write one description per style, not per color. Colors and sizes belong in variants, so the description stays true for every option.

Questions people ask

What should a clothing product description include?

What the garment is, how it fits, the fabric and how it feels, the model's height and size, the garment's measurements and the care instructions. Those are the questions that cause returns when they go unanswered.

Should I say whether a style runs small or large?

Yes, if you know it. Pick Runs small: size up or Runs large: size down and the description tells shoppers in one plain sentence.

Do I have to say where clothing is made?

For textile products sold in the US, the FTC says website descriptions must state "Made in USA", "Imported" or both. Enter it in Where it's made.

Why did it change "bamboo" to "rayon made from bamboo"?

Because the FTC treats most bamboo textiles as rayon and asks sellers to name the fiber that way. If your fabric really is mechanically processed bamboo fiber, check your label and edit the line.

Is it free?

Yes, with a fair-use limit so it stays free for everyone. There's no sign-up. Your notes are sent to an AI model only to write the copy.
