What goes into a jewelry description

The description opens with how the piece looks when worn, then lists the facts buyers check before paying. The Piece pill decides which facts come first:

PieceFacts it puts first
NecklaceChain length, extender, pendant size, clasp
RingSizes offered, band width, face or stone size
EarringsDiameter or drop, weight, closure, pair or single
BraceletInner length, adjustability, clasp

Enter the metal exactly as it's stamped or invoiced. The tool copies it word for word and never shortens it.

Metal and stone wording the FTC Jewelry Guides expect

  • Gold needs a karat. The Guides say the word gold should come with a correct karat fineness, such as 14k gold. Plated and filled gold must be described as such, with at least 10 karat gold.
  • Vermeil has a definition: sterling silver coated with gold of at least 10 karat, at least 2.5 microns thick. Only use the word if your supplier confirms both.
  • Gold electroplate means at least 0.175 microns of fine gold, and heavy gold electroplate at least 2.5 microns.
  • Lab-grown diamonds must be described with a word such as "laboratory-grown" or "laboratory-created" right next to "diamond". The tool puts "lab-grown" before the word every time.
  • Gemstone treatments must be disclosed when the treatment isn't permanent, needs special care or significantly affects value. Online, that disclosure belongs in the description, so enter it in Stones and any treatment.

The tool also won't write hypoallergenic, nickel-free, tarnish-free or waterproof unless your details say so.

Adding it to your store

  1. 01

    Copy the HTML

Use Copy HTML under the result, so the headings and lists come across as they are.

  2. 02

    Shopify

In your Shopify admin, go to Products, open the product and click Show HTML (the <> button) in the description editor toolbar. Paste, then click Save.

  3. 03

    WooCommerce

In WordPress, go to Products, edit the product and switch the main editor to the Text tab before you paste. Click Update.

  4. 04

    Check the metal line

Read the Materials and measurements list against your supplier's specification sheet before you publish. It's the part buyers and regulators check.

For rings, link a sizing guide. The ring size converter helps shoppers find their size.

Questions people ask

Can I call gold-plated jewelry "gold"?

Not on its own. The FTC Jewelry Guides treat plated, filled and vermeil pieces as different from solid gold, so the description keeps words such as "gold plated" and the karat.

How do I describe lab-grown diamonds?

Use "laboratory-grown", "laboratory-created" or a similar term right next to the word diamond. The generator writes "lab-grown diamond" every time you name the stone.

Do I need to mention gemstone treatments?

Yes, when a treatment isn't permanent, creates special care needs or significantly affects the value. Enter it in the stones field and it stays in the description.

What measurements should I include?

Chain length and extender for necklaces, sizes and band width for rings, diameter or drop and weight for earrings, and inner length for bracelets. Measurements cut returns more than any adjective.

Is it free?

Yes, with a fair-use limit so it stays free for everyone. There's no sign-up. Your notes are sent to an AI model only to write the copy.
