Why supplier copy holds you back

Supplier and dropshipping descriptions are written once and pasted into every store that sells the product. They're often keyword-stuffed, machine-translated and full of notes meant for wholesalers.

Google's guidance on helpful content asks whether a page avoids simply copying or rewriting other sources and adds substantial value of its own. A description rebuilt from the facts in your own voice is the start. What sets your page apart is what only you can add: your photos, sizing advice and experience with the product.

What the rewriter does

  • Keeps the facts: materials, measurements, capacities and what's in the box. Numbers and units stay exactly as written.
  • Drops the clutter: "100% brand new and high quality", measurement-error notes, screen-color disclaimers and repeated keywords.
  • Leaves out claims you can't back up, such as health benefits or "military grade", unless your own notes confirm them.
  • Writes new sentences rather than swapping synonyms into the supplier's, and doesn't reuse any run of five or more words.
  • Adds a specifications list and, when the supplier lists package contents, a what's-in-the-box list.
  • Translates as it goes. Paste the original in any language and pick your store's language.

Before you publish

  • Check every spec against the product in hand. The rewriter keeps the supplier's numbers, including their mistakes.
  • Add what only you know in Your own notes: how it fits, how it performs, what you tested. Those facts are used as given.
  • Keep compatibility wording factual ("fits iPhone 15 Pro") and never present another company's brand as your own.
  • Google Merchant Center asks for product descriptions written with generative AI to be submitted in the structured_description attribute. If your feed app sends your store descriptions to Google, check how it handles this.

To paste it, use Copy HTML. In Shopify, click Show HTML (the <> button) in the description editor first; in WooCommerce, use the editor's Text tab.

Questions people ask

Is a rewritten supplier description unique enough?

It will read differently from the supplier's text, but it's built from the same facts. Add your own details, photos and sizing advice to give shoppers and search engines a reason to choose your page.

Can I just use the supplier's description?

If your supplier allows it, yes, but the same text appears on every store selling that product, and it's often cluttered and awkwardly translated.

Will it keep the specifications?

Yes. It's told to keep every measurement, material and quantity exactly as written, and to leave out anything unclear rather than guess.

Why did it remove a claim?

Health benefits, certifications and phrases like "military grade" are left out unless your notes confirm them. If a claim is true and you can back it up, add it to Your own notes and run it again.

Can it translate supplier copy?

Yes. Paste the original in any language and choose the language your store sells in from the Language menu.
