How WooCommerce stores reviews

WooCommerce reviews are WordPress comments attached to a product, with the star rating stored as comment meta. Core WooCommerce has no bulk reviews importer, so most stores use a comments-import tool (like the WP All Import Comments add-on) or a dedicated reviews-import plugin. This converter reads a wide set of common review export columns (rating, title, body, reviewer name and email, date, photos, product SKU or handle) and writes them out with plain, unambiguous labels.

Match reviews to products using Product SKU wherever your source data has one: most import tools look products up by SKU, which is far more reliable than matching by title.

    From your current reviews app (Judge.me, Yotpo, Loox, Stamped) or platform (Etsy, Shopify's product reviews).

    Check ratings are between 1 and 5, and that a Product SKU is present for as many rows as possible.

    Install a comments or reviews import plugin, upload this file, and map the columns during its import step.

    Approve the reviews

    New comments often import as pending. Approve them in bulk from Comments in wp-admin, filtered to your product post type.

Pitfalls

  • A rating outside 1–5 is flagged as an error, since WooCommerce's rating field only accepts whole numbers 1 to 5.
  • Dates aren't reformatted. If your import plugin needs a specific date format, adjust the Date column in the download before importing.
  • Column names on export files change between app versions and store settings. This tool matches a wide set of likely header names and shows a live preview, so check the preview against your file before you download.

Questions people ask

Will this affect my product rating averages immediately?

Only once the reviews are actually imported and approved. WooCommerce recalculates a product's average rating and count whenever its reviews change.

Can I mark reviews as verified purchases?

The Verified Purchase column carries that flag across if your source data has it. Your import plugin needs to support setting WooCommerce's verified-owner comment meta for it to show the badge.

What if I don't have a Product SKU column?

Use Product Name instead; most import plugins can also match by exact product title, though SKU matching is more reliable with renamed or duplicate-titled products.

Does Etsy let me export reviews directly?

No, Etsy has no built-in reviews export for sellers. Copy your reviews into a spreadsheet with these columns, or use a review-scraping tool, before converting.
